Nathan Smith has been working in the Broadcast/Digital/Video industry for over 25 years. His career includes 15 years at CNN, 10 years at The Weather Channel/NBCU, owning his own consulting company, Cambridge Innovative Solutions for 2 years and the last 3 years spent as Vice President, Content Management with the world’s largest Spanish language network Univision. Nathan implemented a full scale Avid Media Solution for Univision in 2013, inclusive of all workflow design and processes and consolidation of 18 silo’ed video units for Univision at a yearly cost savings of $1.5 million. Nathan currently manages all aspect of editing, archive, ingest, and file base distribution and Production Asset Management (PAM), and Media Asset Management (MAM) systems for Univision Communications to include Entertainment, Sports, and News. Nathan manages a staff of 100+ professionals and manages all aspect of Music and Sound Design, along with Media Management teams and Network Services Coordinators. Nathan manages all processes for delivery of content to 20+ digital clients while managing closed captioning efforts for the networks and cable properties.

Nathan, as Director of Media Operations for CNN consolidated all video media operations for all 3 CNN broadcast networks, CNN Airport Channel, CNN.com, and affiliate services (CNN Newsource).

Nathan was the workflow liaison with NBCU for the sale of The Weather Channel in 2008 while VP of Broadcast Operations, and collaborated and liaise with departments including IT, Broadcast Engineering, Facilities, and Legal to efficiently direct new projects, including the redesign of a new $1.6M newsroom and the rebuilding and implementation of an inbound satellite feeds area. Nathan researched, evaluated and lead negotiations for major technology and facilities-related projects including the $45M conversion to HD complete with the construction of a 4,500 sq.ft. studio, control rooms, editing, Master Control and the implementation of a Vizrt graphics system, while dramatically improving video support – a key building block for mobile and web technologies – by rebuilding a $2M satellite feeds operation and raising inbound/outbound capacity by 100%.. Nathan oversaw the increase in video output and workforce production while remaining flat on headcount by incorporating an automated control room and increasing video volume by 200% in an 18 month period through cross training operations.

Nathan holds his Bachelor of Arts degree and MBA from Mercer University. Nathan is married and he and his wife Kristi live in Miami, Florida. Nathan has a daughter in college at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga and a son at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
